Okay, this is really serious.

My good friend,

xie_xie_xie has made an amazing post and call to action here on her IJ.

Flist, we need your help.

My daughter is 20 years old. She's also a lesbian. She would like to marry someday, and I want to be there to see it. But if Proposition 8 passes here in California, this will never happen.

Getting married is not only an act of love. It is a basic human right. For a court to decide whether or not one should have this right is not only preposterous, but dangerous. The courts constantly try to curtail a woman's right to choose. Now they are going after the fundamental right to marry. This is wrong.

If you live here in California, please help. Go door to door, make phone calls, tell your friends, family and neighbors to please support No On Prop 8. If you can't help in this way, donate. The opposition has us out-funded by 10 million dollars, and has the backing of the Mormon church.

I don't want to watch my daughter engage in a ceremony that carries none of the basic rights and privileges that my own marriage does. That many of yours do. You have children, friends and family that may want to marry someday. Help them. Help us.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but I have seen this happen before, in one of the BLUEST/liberal (we now have a gay mayor in Portland) states ever, Oregon. Measure 36 passed changing the state constition to that read one man one woman defines marraige. No one at first thought this measure could pass. BUT the evangelicals campaigned like crazy, the LDS and others made it about children being taught gay sex in the first grade, about how families would be threatened, how the sanctity of marraige would be harmed. Left friendly conservatives, some of my friends, voted FOR measure 36 because of the messaging, not because they wanted to keep gays from marrying.

Donate if you can, volunteer if you can....stop lies and hatred.
