Okay, you know what? I’ve had about enough of this shit.
I jokingly told some friends that “my fandom is full of divas.” Cause let’s face it, it is.
That does not mean you get to shit on someone else, or storm off in a huff when you get called on your shit, okay?
NOTE: The use of “YOU” is general, not personal.
I’ll tell my story, to get things going.
As many of you know, QAF was not my first fandom. When I got to LJ, I was a part of the Harry Potter fandom. I have friends who write for the LOTR, and others that write for Smallville. I knew that when I switched fandoms, I might lose contact with some of them. Luckily, I still manage to keep up, and most of them are still there.
The reason I got an IJ had to do with the Strikethrough. Since the fandom that I belonged to was primarily targeted, I thought I’d be better off somewhere else. Apparently, a large portion of HP agreed with me. Consequently, a chunk of QAF felt the same way.
Now, everyone didn’t follow, but that was okay. As long as I kept my LJ, I could stay in touch. I try my best, but sometimes, it’s hard living in two places. But I don’t want to lose the many people I’ve come to know at LJ, so I keep up the effort.
Shortly after the move, there was talk of “the pretty people”, “the main clique”, “the BNF’s” running the whole show at IJ, and dissing people that stayed at LJ. I’m not stupid, I saw some of the exchanges that happened. I didn’t agree with some, and agreed with others. But I never thought that the so called “split” would become, well, permanent. I don't claim to know all of what happened, and to be honest, I don't want to know. I know what I see, and it sucks. On both sides of the equation.
There are people that feel one way about QAF and fandom, those that feel otherwise. That doesn’t make any side right or wrong. You have the right to participate in fandom anyway you see fit. You have the right to maintain your comms as you see fit. But understand this. When you set out to disenfranchise any part of fandom, don’t piss and moan when they call you on it. It was your idea, after all. And don’t say that “I didn’t do anything, they can play or not, their call.” It’s bullshit. If you say your comm will only accept “blue people”, then you’ve deliberately excluded the other colors of the rainbow. How hard is that to understand?
I don’t lock my posts, I don’t disable comments, and I have never deleted my journal in a huff. Not my style. If something pisses me off, I rant about it. Don’t like it? Don’t read it. Don’t agree with it? Tough shit, I told you not to read it. I will engage anywhere, any time. Seems to me that if more people just said what the fuck was on their minds, we’d all be better off. At least then we’d know where we stood, yeah? And I have no desire to get into a “she said, no, SHE said” argument. I’ll end up telling you to STFU, you’re giving me a headache.
Yes, this was the result of something that happened today on IJ. But I’ve seen this shit coming for a long time, and I finally decided that I’d had enough. NOBODY OWNS FANDOM, OKAY?? No one is in charge, except for their journals and any comms that they maintain. I’m not saying you can’t run your comm the way you want, or say what you want in your journal. That would be pretty stupid. But be prepared for the fallout of your actions. OWN YOUR ACTIONS. That’s all I’m saying.
Now, anyone that didn’t like what I said, defriend me. I’m sure there will be people upset by what I have to say, but consider this: are you upset because you feel wronged...or because you may have done wrong? If you feel I’m somehow singling you out, you’re right. I am. That is, you collectively. Again, if this pisses you off, you know what to do. I’ll be upset, but I’ll get over it. I’m a big girl. And life is too short for fucking drama. Plus, it gives me a migraine.
I’m posting this on IJ and LJ.
Fuck, I hate Mondays.
Peace out.
ETA: I just got home from work, where I was when I posted this, and it occurred to me that some people may not know what caused this. Suffice it to say that I'm talking about a fairly new comm. Let me also add that what happened was totally not cool, and I hope that the people involved find a way to resolve this. Maybe they can, maybe not. But hopefully this will serve as a reminder that there are real people behind these journals, and they have feelings, too.
