Oh, it gets better.

I gotta pull out my favorite parts of this argument. Original in bold.

Keith Bardwell, justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish, says it is his experience that most interracial marriages do not last long.

Judge Barwell, meet Mr & Mrs Red. Married since 1986.

"I'm not a racist. I just don't believe in mixing the races that way," Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. "I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else."

I don't have piles of black friends, does that make me somewhat less than you? And OMG, you let them use the Whites Only Potty??? How fucking progressive are you, then!!!

Seriosly, I can't BELIEVE he said that about the bathroom. Hope some guy forgot to lift the seat.

"There is a problem with both groups accepting a child from such a marriage," Bardwell said. "I think those children suffer and I won't help put them through it."

Again, Judge Bardwell, meet Child 1 and Child 2. Biracial, relatively well-adjusted. Their problems don't stem from being biracial, they stem form peer pressure, in one case homophobia at times...uh oh...I have a gay child. O NOES!!! Interracial couples make gay babies!!! *flails* Oh, take away my marriage certificate, NOW!!! I'm not worthy!!!

Here's the (un)happy couple:

Beth Humphrey, 30, and 32-year-old Terence McKay, both of Hammond, say they will consult the U.S. Justice Department about filing a discrimination complaint.

Humphrey, an account manager for a marketing firm, said she and McKay, a welder, just returned to Louisiana. She is white and he is black. She plans to enroll in the University of New Orleans to pursue a masters degree in minority politics.

Hope you sue his ass.

This is the same reason that denying gay couples the right to marry is wrong. You, John Q Public, don't get to decide whether or not any couple has the right to marry, unless it's a case of being underage or mentally incapacitated and unable to voice their consent.

And you, Judge Bardwell, should be disbarred. ASAP.

Let's see.... Hmmm.....

My mom is white and my dad is Japanese. I'm "biracial". My Doggie is white and I'm... well - read the previous statement, please - our lovely child is a total mix breed.

As for getting accepted when I was younger: Show me the child that didn't feel left out for one or another reason, and I'll also believe that the earth is flat and rainbows shoots out of Jensen Ackles' ass when he takes a dump!!

Then, I don't live in the US. And there's people like this that makes me eternally grateful that I don't.

Sometime I forget that ALL married couples have children and of course people who aren't married NEVER have sex so denying interracial couples, marriage certificates is the PERFECT way to prevent them from having children. I never figured that out. Silly me.

I cannot begin to improve upon the well thought out comments you made above.

However, I am disturbed when by my reaction. When I heard where this happened, I said; "figures" Unfortunately, there are places in lousyanner that are still in the nineteenth century. What really rots is their law is written to allow a JoP to perform a marriage, yet does not mandate they perform the ceremony. Bastard will probably only get a slap on the wrist.

Yeah, and that's what pisses me off, darlin. The fact that he's gonna get away with this, even if he issues the license later. You watch. They'll call for his head, he'll "resign" in shame, but they won't get to the root of the issue...which is that it's ILLEGAL to deny someone a license if they fit the criteria for getting one. And since 1969, they fit the criteria.

I'd have loved to - but right now I am trying really really hard to not do anything that's going to be time-sucky, and writing good rants does that.

My big comprehensive exam for the MLIS degree is next Friday, so I'm nose-to-grindstone studying for the next few days...

Thank you!! I had no idea what it meant, and was kind of embarassed to ask.

That's a field that I wish I'd pursued. Libraries have always been a favorite place of mine, and since the profession has changed so much over the years, I really wish I'd chosen that as a major. So much to do with a degree in that. Teaching, research, you name it.

Madam Pince just needed to get laid. lol

I work with several blokes who have mixed parents and they're better adjusted then the ones from non-mixed. And most have divorced parents. Now I wonder, who adjusts better?

Apparently there isn't a mandatory literacy requirement to be a judge in Louisiana. Cause I'm pretty sure his comments following the statement "I'm not a racist" are a basic textbook example of racism.

And if his argument is that the marriages "don't last long", I would hope there is a long line of other couples he won't marry as well. You know, teens (they are always changing their minds), senior citizens (at their age one will kick off at any time), trophy wives (eventually they will decide fucking their chubby over the hill boy with their eyes closed isn't worth the money), oh hell - anyone based on today's divorce rate.

He should be disbarred. And sued thoroughly.
