This is why I love Michael Moore
So, I spent the morning flipping through the blogosphere, watching people's heads asplode, or reading back-handed congratualtions to President Obama for receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.

A prize, I might add, that he certainly didn't lobby for, and, judging by his reaction, had no idea was going to be awarded to him.

Want a well thought out reason why he was awarded this?

Then check out this diary by Michael Moore

Does he deserve this? Quite frankly, I'm not on the consideration committee, so I can't anwser that. I don't know what the specific criteria is for deciding, nor do I know who the other contenders were. So I'll leave that to others more learned than me.

And, even though he was speaking about health care reform, this comment by Rep Alan Grayson pretty much sums up my thoughts about the things I've read today.

Regarding the American people, Rep Grayson said this:

"They understand that if Barack Obama were somehow able to cure hunger in the world the Republicans would blame him for overpopulation"

"They understand that if Barack Obama could somehow bring about world peace they would blame him for destroying the defense industry."

"In fact, they understand that if Barack Obama has a BLT sandwhich tommorrow for lunch, they will try to ban bacon."

Yep. And there are a few Democrats that fall into this category, as well.

Oh, btw, some asshole over on Redstate.com says that this is an affirmative action move. Now, ain't that classy?

Obama's speech and attitude were perfect and brilliant and made me fall in love all over again.

I'm thinking that people totally forgot the last two years, starting with the primaries and ending with the election. I have never in my life seen people of all ages, races and cultures go berserk over anyone that wasn't onstage playing an instrument, on a movie screen, or in a sports arena the way that they did over Barack Obama. He engaged everyone to talk about what was wrong in the world. People who never cared about politics before were amazed by him. Kids who didn't turn out for John Kerry voted in droves. Is this not something to celebrate, to take note of?

Not for the people who liked the status quo. It meant that things really were going to change. Their power base was going to crumble and people were going to start questioning things more.

Seriously, I wonder if the economy would have crashed if Obama hadn't been a presidential candidate. Not that I'm "blaming" him, more that I'm saying that he made people wake up and ask questions. And those questions produced answers that people didn't like. It uncovered practices that nobody in their right minds could allow to continue.

*shrug* I may be way off, but I kind of like the idea that people are starting to come out of the haze of non-thinking acceptance that has gotten us into this mess.

Michael Moore brought up something like that in Capitalism. he mentioned how Bush needed one last scare tactic, and it was the banking collapse. That snapped many a head and woke up many a person. And yeah, when the lights come on, that's when you see who you were fucking the night before, and it ain't always pretty.

Oh, and Rep. Grayson's comments are spot on! Anything he does is going to be attacked by certain groups of people just because he did it.

I apparently live under a rock...you broke the news to me.
(technically it wasn't a rock but a mountain of child related activities. Apparently offensive Tshirts don't excuse me from carpools.)

I can only imagine what is being said.
But you know, I love that I heard it from you. :)

As I said to my mum when he was elected and people started wondering about some of the things he was doing, "he's making all the changes that will benefit us years down the road, but that no one wanted to do or would pay for."
